Opportunity for Artists

Hello! My name is Mariah Nightfire Currey, I'm a senior attending the Media Arts and Communications Academy high school in McMinnville.

I've been working with Miller Woods to organize a local art auction featuring works of local artists. It will be a great opportunity for any artist who wishes to sell some of their art. This auction is planned to be held 2 days after Earth Day on April 24th, 2010 from noon to 4pm at Miller Woods. Around 20% of the money earned will go to the artists, the rest to fund Miller Woods so it can continue to educate the community with knowledge, skills, and awareness of our local environment.

If there are any artists interested, please give me a call and leave a message.

Thanks!

Paper Gardens Literary Contest

Thank you to everyone who submitted literary work to the 2010 Paper Gardens competition! We had an overwhelming turnout this year totaling 424 submissions! We were thrilled to have McMinnville, Newberg, Dundee, Dayton, Amity, Yamhill, and Carlton residents represented in this year’s competition.

Works are currently with judge Lex Runciman, and winning submissions will be chosen shortly. Due to the large number of applicants, please be patient over the next few months as we begin to send out notifications. We will try to be as prompt as humanly possible!

The Paper Gardens Celebration will be held at 6:00 p.m. on the evening of May 18th at the Oregon Olive Mill at Red Ridge Farms. 5700 NE Breyman Orchards RD, Dayton OR 97114. Chapbooks will be available, and winners will have a chance to read their work, meet the judge, and mingle with other literary folk.

Once again, thank you to everyone who submitted work to Paper Gardens. I am always thrilled to see so much budding literary talent in Yamhill County.

Cheers,

Tayler Brisbin
